Native Planting and Seeding Services

1. Request a consultation

2. Approve a design

3. Sit back while we handle the rest

Our specialty is designed native gardens and large scale prairie/meadow installation. We accomplish these projects by planting a mix of plugs, mature plants, and seeding. If your project requires non-natives, we can source those as well.

All of our plants and seeds are either grown by us, or sourced from local native plant nurseries.

Native Planting

Plugs vs mature plants

Plant plugs are young, individually grown plants designed for easy transplanting. They have a well-developed root system, making them more resilient and quicker to establish than seeds.

Plugs are great for small to mid-sized plots requiring a lot of plants, and when you don't want to wait years for the landscape to establish.

If you don't want to wait at all, mature plants are the way to go. A popular method is mixing plugs in with a few mature plants to improve initial aesthetics and speed up establishment.

Planting season for native plants

We plant from May through September. During the peak of summer, plantings will require regular watering.

Native Seeding

Native Seeds vs Plants

Seeding is a low cost per square-foot option and is the best choice for large plots.

However, seeds require patience. They will take 2-3 years to establish and require maintenance during that time.

Planting season for native seeds

Prime seeding time is late fall. This mimics natural seeding, and provides time for stratification, allowing the seeds to break dormancy and germinate.

Seeding is also viable in early spring while temperatures are cold and there is ample precipitation.
